Our Story

Meet Co-Authors Jennifer and Margaret

Very early in our lives, we developed a love for the great outdoors, road trips, camping, and naturally the National Parks. As we grew older and had children, we wanted to keep the tradition going and introduce them to the beautiful treasures found across our country. As teachers we both had summers off, so long road trips across Texas to Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Alaska were the order of the summer. Trying to keep four children engaged on the road, we introduced them to the Junior Ranger program known for teaching them about conservation, plant & animal life, and protecting the ecology of the world we live in. The program helps teach about each individual park, and focus the children’s attention on the wonders around them . Because of this program, our children, along with other children in our extended families, earned and collected many Junior Ranger badges. They are proud of their badges and look forward to introducing their children to the same.

After our children were grown, we found ourselves with a little extra time on our hands. We decided to write a book. We wanted to write a children’s book. And what better topic was our passion for the National Parks. What better way to share the National Parks with the youth, than to tell a story about protagonists who are Junior Rangers.

Big Bend National Park is in our home state of Texas. This National Park became a yearly getaway for us, and the source of many camping adventures. It seemed the natural place to begin our project. After several years of writing and editing, and finding our fabulous illustrator, Allison, Big Bend Is Not in London was born. We hope that it is the first of many in a series which will feature our young protagonists Tara and Adam exploring the National Parks of the United States of America.
